Kurdistan, Slemani News have reported that the first kidney transplant from a living kidney donor has been successfully performed by a transplant team in the city of Slemani; Shoresh General Hospital on 7th of June 2008.

Sulaimani University is one of the important scientific and cultural centers in Kurdistan region. It was founded in 1968. It was transferred by the Ba'ath Regime because of political activities against the regime. But after the uprising it was refounded with a decision which was made by the Kurdistan Parliament in 1992.
